Software Engineering

Whiplash

Before starting work as a Software Engineer, I had always heard people say “don’t worry about grades, they teach you everything on the job anyway”1. This always confused me because, I was learning a shitton in school and wasn’t sure what stuff I was missing out on.

Turns out that they were definitely right, and there was so much that I didn’t know about. Not only that, but while your coworkers will teach you about the job, they certainly don’t want to teach you on the job. So let’s get you as up to speed as possible.

  1. This is not to say that CS curriculum is useless, rather you just don’t interact with it as much in a direct way as with other things you do. Certainly knowing theory and how to learn is very important. ↩︎
